City-Provided Trash and Recycling Service (Single-Family Residences)
For decades, the City of El Segundo has provided free residential trash and recycling collection. Residents use their own containers and the City provides 18-gallon recycling bins if requested. The City has contracted with Consolidated Disposal Services, Inc. at below average pricing since 1993. Many cities have opted to change to an automated service where an automated truck rather than the driver picks up and empties containers. As a result, new trucks and larger containers are purchased and pricing increases. To assure that the City could continue to provide free trash service to residents, City Council has decided to continue with the same manual collection service for another five years.
In addition, the City has given residents the option to use their trash containers as recycling containers. Residents can affix the “Recyclables Only” sticker to their own trash containers to identify them as recycling containers.
For safe and efficient service:
Place all trash and recyclables inside containers.
Place containers curbside by 7 A.M. and return containers to private property on same day of collection.
If you choose to use your own container for recycling, make sure the “Recyclables Only” sticker is visible for the driver when the container is set out for collection.
Refuse collection is for household refuse only. Do not place the following items in your container: dirt, sod, rock or other debris from construction work, hot ashes (take these items to the transfer station at 1449 W. Rosecrans Ave in Gardena) or, hazardous materials such as oil, gas or paint (take these items to Hyperion at 7660 W. Imperial Ave, Gate B every Saturday and Sunday). For more information on Household Hazardous Waste Collections.
Recycling bins are for plastic, glass, paper and metal. Click here for a list of what's recyclable.
