Seeking Nominations for the 2013 Older American of the Year Recipient
Due April 3rd
Do you know an older American that exemplifies the true spirit of volunteerism within the El Segundo community? Have they enhanced the quality of life for others? The El Segundo Recreation and Parks Departments invites you or your organization to nominate a candidate for the 2013 El Segundo Older American of the Year Award. Any El Segundo resident 60 years of age or older that has demonstrated strong volunteer and community service is eligible.
Nominations can be made by completing a form that can be found downloaded from www.ESRec.Org or picked up at the Joslyn Center (339 Sheldon Street). A selection committee will review the nominations and select a finalist to be named the 2013 Older American of the Year. The honoree will be celebrated at the annual Elderfest event held on Saturday, May 11th at the Hacienda Hotel. The event also includes up to 20 health-related vendors, an overview of the City of El Segundo Recreation & Parks Department classes and activities for adults, entertainment, and a hot lunch for local senior citizens. The selected Older American of the Year will also be honored at the annual Los Angeles Older Americans Recognition Day Luncheon sponsored by Los Angeles County, as well as receive a proclamation at an El Segundo City Council Meeting.
All nominations must be submitted to the Joslyn Center, El Segundo Public Library, or Park Vista by April 3, 2013. For more information on the Older American of the Year, Elderfest, or event sponsorships and donations, please call the Joslyn Center at (310) 524-2705.
