El Segundo's April 11, 2006 Municipal Election Cancelled
At a Special City Council Meeting on January 25, 2006, City Clerk Cindy Mortesen presented an official Certification that, as of the close of the extended nomination period for two City Council seats, there were only two candidates for the Offices to be elected on April 11th.
Council chose, as allowed by Elections Code, to appoint the nominees, Incumbent Mayor Kelly McDowell and Mr. Bill Fisher, to the two seats and cancel the scheduled election, saving the City $50,000-$60,000 in election costs. Both nominees will take office and serve exactly as if elected at the regular Municipal Election. Oaths of Office are tentatively planned for the Council Meeting of April 18, 2006.
