What is Energy Upgrade California?

South Bay Cities Council of Governments through its South Bay Environmental Services Center is the South Bay’s Ambassador for Energy Upgrade California, a state initiative to educate residents and small businesses about managing their energy use. The initiative helps Californians take action – now – to save energy, conserve natural resources, reduce demand on the electric grid, use clean energy options, and make informed energy management choices at home and at work.

Energy Upgrade California is your source for information, tools, and programs that YOU can take today to efficiently manage energy, save money, and make your homes more comfortable.

Energy Upgrade California is dedicated to providing Californians with easy steps to reduce their energy use and use renewable clean energy.

The Energy Upgrade California brand is owned by the California Public Utilities Commission and supported by an alliance of the California Energy Commission, utilities, regional energy networks, local governments, businesses and non-profits to help communities meet state and local energy and climate action goals. Funding comes from investor-owned utility customers under the auspices of the California Public Utilities Commission.

What can Californians do to “Stay Golden”?

We all can play a part with actions big and small, such as upgrading to LED blubs, installing low-flow showerheads, getting solar electricity or water heating, or buying the most efficient Energy Star appliances.

What may seem like little things can add up to made a difference – when all Californians take action.

Visit www.energyupgradeca.org to learn about how to take steps to use and manage energy at home and at work. These include easy actions such as using advances smart strips to stop standby power, replacing inefficient light bulbs with energy saving bulbs, and installing smart thermostats and home energy monitors.

Be sure to enter the “Play Your Part” Sweepstakes.  “The Play Your Part sweepstakes is a fun and engaging way to help Californians see there are plenty of ways to keep our homes comfortable while reducing our energy usage and maintaining our beautiful environment,” said Regina Marston, Senior Manager for the Center for Sustainable Energy, the entity appointed by the California Public Utilities Commission to implement the Energy Upgrade California initiative. “Whether you rent or own, all Californians can create their own Energy Action Plan and keep track of the energy management actions they pledge to take around their homes. By doing just that, they can be entered to win prizes to help fulfill their plan to save energy, money, and California’s great quality of life.”

The “Play Your Part” sweepstakes requires all participants to commit to an Energy Action Plan, which details steps Californians pledge to take to better manage energy use in their homes. Upon completion and successful submission of their Energy Action Plan, all participants will be automatically entered to win a prize package to help complete their Action Plan. The sweepstakes begins January 19, 2015 and ends March 31, 2015 at 11:59 P.M. PST.
