In 2005, an Aquatic Master Plan was developed to help identify the aquatic needs of the El Segundo community and determine the process by which those needs could be met. This Aquatic Master Plan identified a need for an additional aquatic facility to meet the demands of the El Segundo aquatic community.
This Aquatic Feasibility Study is based on the Aquatic Master Plan and the objective is to meet the needs identified in 2005.
A Community Meeting was recently held on Tuesday, April 14 to gather information from the El Segundo community. Several identified aquatic stakeholders were invited to participate, along with the general public, in a structured discussion about the future of aquatics in El Segundo. There were several goals designed to gather the information needed to complete the Aquatic Feasibility Report; develop a common aquatic vocabulary, review possible site alternatives, and discuss options for the future of aquatics in El Segundo.
One of the main topics of discussion is the benefits of Competitive element pools and Recreational element pools. Some of the benefits of a Competitive Pool include sanctioned swimming events, sanctioned waterpolo matches, and the potential for diving competitions. Some of the benefits of a Recreational Pool include waterslides, wave pools, interactive play features, adaptive swimming capabilities, and spray features. Some of the structural design issues include shade structures, decks, locker room facilties and snack bar capabilties.
Over the course of the next several weeks, we are asking for community input on this Aquatic Feasibility Study. A series of questions have been developed to help gleen this information from the residents of El Segundo.
