Single Family Residence Garbage Container Capacity
The City of El Segundo provides refuse collection and recycling services at no cost for all single family residential properties in the City. Consolidated Disposal Service has been contracted by the City to provide this service. They have provided very competitive pricing based on the refuse container restrictions in the El Segundo Municipal Code § 5-2-5(1967). The Code restriction reads as follows:
“The container shall have a capacity of not more than forty five (45) gallons, and shall weigh when placed for collection not more than sixty (60) pounds, including the contents thereof”.
Your cooperation is greatly appreciated. If you live in a single family household and your containers are more than 45 gallons, we ask that you replace those containers promptly. Consolidated Disposal Services will begin tagging non-compliant containers this month. Staff will try to accommodate you and empty large containers during a two week grace period.
As a reminder, for safe and efficient service:
Collection will begin at 7 A.M. To avoid missing your pick-up, be sure to have your containers at the curb before this time. Please avoid putting your trash out any earlier than the night before your regularly scheduled pick-up day.
Please remember, containers shall not have a capacity of more than 45 gallons and shall weigh not more than 60 pounds when placed curbside for collection.
Please place materials inside the containers. Materials on the ground will not be collected.
Be a good neighbor. Please remove your containers from the curb within 12 hours of being emptied.
Refuse collection is for household refuse only. Please refrain from placing the following items in your container: dirt, sod, rocks, concrete or other debris from construction work, hot ashes (take these items to the transfer station at 1449 W. Rosecrans Ave in Gardena) or, hazardous materials such as oil, gas or paint (take these items to Hyperion at 7660 W. Imperial Ave, Gate B every Saturday and Sunday).
Please call 524-2897 for additional information. Recycling bins are provided for plastic, glass, paper and metal items.
