The City of El Segundo has completed the 2015 Hazard Mitigation Plan and needs your review and comments! El Segundo faces a number of potential hazards such as earthquakes, severe weather, tsunamis, epidemics, terrorism, hazardous materials, and more.
Hazard mitigation plans are developed before a disaster strikes. The plans identify community policies, actions, and tools for long-term implementation to reduce risk and potential for future losses. Once adopted and implemented, these plans gradually lessen the impacts associated with hazard events. Hazard mitigation plans must be approved by the Federal Emergency Management Agency in order for the city to be eligible for mitigation grant funding. This plan represents El Segundo’s intent to reduce the impact of hazards within the city.
Evening Book Discussion Featuring A Sudden Light Join library staff, authors, and other avid readers in a lively discussion focusing on a book-of-the-month. Free to all, the meetings will be held the last Wednesday of the month at 6:30 p.m. in the library's Friends of the Library Room.
Take part in a discussion of Garth Stein's novel A Sudden Light.A summary of the book reads:
A Sudden Light is a rich, atmospheric work that is at once a multigenerational saga, a historical novel, a ghost story, and the story of a contemporary family's struggle to connect with each other. A tribute to the natural beauty of the Pacific Northwest, it reflects Garth Stein's outsized capacity for empathy and keen understanding of human motivation, and his rare ability to see the unseen: the universal threads that connect us all.
