12:00  PM Drop-In Lobby Events: Historic El Segundo Centennial Photo Plaques

The library's Drop-In Lobby Events feature a six-program series with library staff and local guest speakers leading hands-on activities and lecture presentations.

On Wednesday, May 31, library staff give a brief overview of El Segundo history as seen through the historic photos found hanging on the library walls.

All workshops take place in the library's lobby, are free, and include supplies. Please feel free to bring your own supplies for inspiration. For additional information about this or other Drop-In Lobby Events, please call (310) 524-2728.

6:30  PM Evening Book Discussion Featuring Swimming Lessons

Join library staff, authors, and other avid readers in a lively discussion focusing on a book-of-the-month. Free to all, the meetings will be held the last Wednesday of the month at 6:30 p.m. in the library's Friends of the Library Room.

Join us on May 31 as library staff discuss the novel Swimming Lessons by Claire Fuller.

7:00  PM El Segundo Historical Committee Meeting
The El Segundo Historical Committee needs pictures of your home, neighborhood, business, downtown areas, school, church and family activities that give a view of El Segundo's past.

If you do not wish to donate your photos or other memorabilia, the Committee will make copies and return your originals. Please identify your photos as fully as possible.

Need help printing but not sure where to start? In this class, we will review how to preview print jobs, select the right options for print jobs, and practice printing jobs on the public computer.

All Day EventPlanning Commission Meeting
Planning & Building Safety's Planning Commission was established pursuant to the Planning Laws of the State of California (Sec. 65100-65106) on August 20, 1946, by City Ordinance #300. The commission is comprised of 5 members who serve with minimal compensation, for 4-year terms, without term limits. The commission makes recommendations to the City Council on the adoption or amendment of the City's General Plan; performs duties with respect to land subdivision, planning and zoning as prescribed by City and State law; and, advises the City Council on those matters falling within its charged responsibilities in a manner reflecting concern for the overall development and environment of the City as a setting for human activities. The Commission meets on the 2nd. and 4th. Thursday of each month, at 5:30p.m., in the City Hall Council Chambers.

9:00  AM Children's Summer Reading Program and Stroytime Registration
Get set for a summer of reading fun with this year's Children's Summer Reading Program, "Reading By Design." In-person registration for the Summer Reading Program begins at 9:00am on Friday, June 9. This free eight-week program is designed to motivate children to read for pleasure during the summer. Storytime session sign-ups will also begin at 9:00am on June 9.

9:00  AM Adult Summer Reading Program Registration
Back by popular demand, the Adult Summer Reading Program's 2017 theme is "Wish You Were Here...Rest. Relaxation. Read." Registration begins at 9:00am on Friday, June 9, with a special early registration incentive for those who register on the first day. Summer activities include a kick-off program tea with plenty of fun, a beach blanket book discussion, and much more.
