Planning & Building Safety's Planning Commission was established pursuant to the Planning Laws of the State of California (Sec. 65100-65106) on August 20, 1946, by City Ordinance #300. The commission is comprised of 5 members who serve with minimal compensation, for 4-year terms, without term limits. The commission makes recommendations to the City Council on the adoption or amendment of the City's General Plan; performs duties with respect to land subdivision, planning and zoning as prescribed by City and State law; and, advises the City Council on those matters falling within its charged responsibilities in a manner reflecting concern for the overall development and environment of the City as a setting for human activities. The Commission meets on the 2nd. and 4th. Thursday of each month, at 5:30p.m., in the City Hall Council Chambers.

7:00  PM El Segundo Historical Committee
The El Segundo Historical Committee needs pictures of your home, neighborhood, business, downtown areas, school, church and family activities that give a view of El Segundo's past.

If you do not wish to donate your photos or other memorabilia, the Committee will make copies and return your originals. Please identify your photos as fully as possible.

8:00  AM Literacy Tutor Training Session
Help adults learn to read by becoming a certified literacy tutor!

Individuals interested in becoming literacy tutors are encouraged to sign up for the library's free six-hour training session to be held on Saturday, September 6, from 8:00am to 3:00pm. This course qualifies attendees to obtain the Literacy Trainer Certificate. After training, tutors are assigned to work one-on-one with other adults wishing to learn to read, or to improve their reading skills.
