5:30  PM Planning Commission Meeting

Planning & Building Safety's Planning Commission was established pursuant to the Planning Laws of the State of California (Sec. 65100-65106) on August 20, 1946, by City Ordinance #300. The commission is comprised of 5 members who serve with minimal compensation, for 4-year terms, without term limits. The commission makes recommendations to the City Council on the adoption or amendment of the City's General Plan; performs duties with respect to land subdivision, planning and zoning as prescribed by City and State law; and, advises the City Council on those matters falling within its charged responsibilities in a manner reflecting concern for the overall development and environment of the City as a setting for human activities. The Commission meets on the 2nd. and 4th. Thursday of each month, at 5:30p.m., in the City Hall Council Chambers.

The dances are co-sponsored by the Recreation and Parks Department. The cost is $3.00 for D.J. dances and $4 or $5 for special dances. Refreshments and door prizes included. Adults of all ages, singles, couples and dancing students are welcome.

6:30  PM Evening Book Discussion Group Featuring "The Marriage Plot"
Join library staff, authors, and other avid readers in a lively discussion focusing on a book-of-the-month. Free to all, the meetings will be held the last Wednesday of the month at 6:30 p.m. in the library's Friends of the Library Room.

On Wednesday, May 30th, library staff will discuss Jeffrey Eugenides' novel The Marriage Plot. A summary of the book reads:

It's the early 1980's and Madeleine Hanna, dutiful English major, is writing her senior thesis on Jane Austen and George Eliot, purveyors of the marriage plot that lies at the heart of the greatest English novels.
