7:00  PM Recreation & Parks Commission Meeting
Recreation & Parks Commission: (Recreation & Parks) was established on March 23, 1938 by Resolution #448. It is comprised of 5 members, who must be residents of El Segundo. Commissioners serve with minimal compensation for 4-year terms, without term limits. The commission advises the City Council on all matters pertaining to recreation, parks, parkways and street trees. It makes recommendations to the City Council regarding level of services, policies and assists in implementing Recreation and Parks Department improvements and programs, including youth counseling, senior outreach, golf operations, city transportation, and in the acquisition and disposal of park property. The commission meets on the 3rd Wednesday of each month, at 7:00 p.m., in City Hall Council Chambers.

Farmer's Market is held every Thursday on Main Street between Holly and Pine Avenues.

2:00  PM Concerts in the Library--Sugar in the Gourd
The four women who comprise this delightful Americana/Roots style band have combined their diverse backgrounds and songwriting talents to form a sound that is as unique as it is captivating. You'll hear beautiful three-part vocal harmonies along with fine musicianship on violin, guitar, mandolin, upright bass, and banjo. This performance will take place at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 20, in the Friends of the Library Room. The program is part of a series called Concerts in the Library, featuring classical and jazz programs, as well as music from different traditions.

Programs in the series will take place the third Saturday each month from September to December. All concerts are free and light refreshments will be provided by the Friends of the Library.

6:30  PM Evening Book Discussion Featuring Bellweather Rhapsody
Join library staff, authors, and other avid readers in a lively discussion focusing on a book-of-the-month. Free to all, the meetings will be held the last Wednesday of the month at 6:30 p.m. in the library's Friends of the Library Room.

Kate Racculia's novel Bellweather Rhapsody will be the topic of this evening's discussion. A summary of the book reads:

A high school music festival goes awry when a young prodigy disappears from a hotel room that was the site of a famous crime, in this whip-smart novel sparkling with the dark and giddy pop culture pleasures of The Shining, Agatha Christie, and Glee.

5:30  PM Planning Commission Meeting

Planning & Building Safety's Planning Commission was established pursuant to the Planning Laws of the State of California (Sec. 65100-65106) on August 20, 1946, by City Ordinance #300. The commission is comprised of 5 members who serve with minimal compensation, for 4-year terms, without term limits. The commission makes recommendations to the City Council on the adoption or amendment of the City's General Plan; performs duties with respect to land subdivision, planning and zoning as prescribed by City and State law; and, advises the City Council on those matters falling within its charged responsibilities in a manner reflecting concern for the overall development and environment of the City as a setting for human activities. The Commission meets on the 2nd. and 4th. Thursday of each month, at 5:30p.m., in the City Hall Council Chambers.
