Planning & Building Safety's Planning Commission was established pursuant to the Planning Laws of the State of California (Sec. 65100-65106) on August 20, 1946, by City Ordinance #300. The commission is comprised of 5 members who serve with minimal compensation, for 4-year terms, without term limits. The commission makes recommendations to the City Council on the adoption or amendment of the City's General Plan; performs duties with respect to land subdivision, planning and zoning as prescribed by City and State law; and, advises the City Council on those matters falling within its charged responsibilities in a manner reflecting concern for the overall development and environment of the City as a setting for human activities. The Commission meets on the 2nd. and 4th. Thursday of each month, at 5:30p.m., in the City Hall Council Chambers.

Celebrate your summer reading accomplishments in the Summer Teen Program with a pizza party and movie! You must be enrolled in the Totally Teen Reading Club and must have read five books this summer to attend the Teen Pizza Party. RSVP and tickets are required. July 30th is the deadline for obtaining tickets. Parents are welcome but please do not bring friends, guests, or siblings. This event will take place from 2:00-4:00 p.m., in the Library's Friends of the Library Room.

12:00  PM Drop-In Lobby Events: Summer Vacation Memory Jars

The library's Drop-In Lobby Events feature a four-program series with local birders, the Westside Pacific Village, and library staff leading hands-on activities and lecture presentations.

Join library staff in making a festive "Summer Vacation Memory Jar" at 12:00pm on Thursday, August 4.

All workshops take place in the library's lobby, are free, and include supplies. Please feel free to bring your own supplies for inspiration. For additional information about this or other Drop-In Lobby Events, please call (310) 524-2728.

2:45  PM Summer Reading "Read for 4 the Win" Party
Participants in this year's Summer Reading Program are invited to attend our wrap-up party at 2:45pm at the Library Park gazebo on Thursday, August 4th. Refreshments will be served on the gazebo beginning at 2:45, followed by a lively performance by Annie Banannie, at 3:00pm. Please bring towels or a blanket to sit on. Tickets are required for refreshments; tickets are available beginning Monday, July 25th, and Saturday, July 30th, is the deadline to pick them up. Please remember that children under the age of 8 must be accompanied by an adult to attend this program.

4:00  PM Friends of the Library Business Meeting
Members of the Friends of the El Segundo Public Library meet to discuss library-related activities. The business meeting is held on a bi-monthly basis at 4:00 p.m. in the Library's Friends of the Library Room--February, April, June, August, October, and December. The business meetings are open to the public and everyone is welcome to attend.

7:00  PM El Segundo Historical Committee Meeting Cancelled
*The regularly scheduled meeting of the El Segundo Historical Committee will not take place this month. The next meeting will be on Thursday, September 1.*

The El Segundo Historical Committee needs pictures of your home, neighborhood, business, downtown areas, school, church and family activities that give a view of El Segundo's past.

If you do not wish to donate your photos or other memorabilia, the Committee will make copies and return your originals. Please identify your photos as fully as possible.
