Starting Monday, June 29, 2015, Los Angeles Airport (LAX) will close outboard runway 24R/6L on the north runway complex for 113 days from June 29th to October 19th to allow construction for Runway Safety Area (RSA) improvements.
RSA improvements have been mandated by Congress for all U.S. airports. The improvements will provide an extra margin of safety for landing and departing aircraft. To limit the impact on operations, LAX will phase the construction, one runway at a time. These construction periods will also be used to complete regular runway maintenance in order to minimize the impact to operations and ensure continued runway safety.
Residents living near LAX may notice a change in aircraft flight activity and noise as aircraft that normally land on the north outboard runway (24R/6L) will instead land on the north inboard runway (24L/6R). Some aircraft noise may also shift from the north to the south complex. LAX will continue to conduct normal Over-Ocean Operations (midnight to 6:30 AM) during this closure when weather and operational conditions permit.
LAX thanks you for your understanding and patience during extended closure. For more information about RSA improvements at LAX, please visit this website: http://www.laxishappening.com/runways/
