City of El Segundo Online Business Registration Application


The following business types are not eligible to apply online:
  • Cannabis related industries
  • Short term rentals
  • Massage establishments
  • Massage Therapist/Practitioner
  • Dog Daycare/Kennels
  • Firearm Sales
  • Fortune Telling
  • Pawn Broker/Secondhand dealer
  • Peddler/Door to Door sales
  • Handbill Distribution 

Step 1
 Gather the necessary information and documents required by the application. 
 Having the following items on hand will facilitate your application process.
  • Federal Tax ID number (for Corporations, LLCs, partnerships, and others with an FEIN).
  • Social Security number (for sole proprietors).
  • Driver's License number for primary contacts.
  • Sellers Permit showing an address in El Segundo (required for retail or wholesale businesses). 
  • Professional license number - county, state, or federal
  • Construction Job location and job valuation (contractors and some outside services)
  • 501(c)(3) determination letter - for nonprofit or charitable organizations.
  • Documentation of tax-exemption.
  • A detailed and complete description of business activity.  Insufficient detail will delay processing.
  • A Visa, MasterCard, American Express Credit or e-check information.

 Step 2
 Select the appropriate application:
    1.  General Contractor or Sub-Contractor Application
            For contractors licensed with the Contractors State License Board.
     2.   In City Application
           For businesses based inside the City of El Segundo, including home based. 
            Contact the Planning and Building Safety Department at (310) 524-2344 to verify that the business activity 
            is allowed in your selected location and for any potential additional requirements.
    3.   Out of City Application 
            For businesses working in El Segundo but based elsewhere (do not use this form if you are a General Contractor of Sub-Contractor).
    4.   Rental or Lease by Property Owners
            For Commercial or Industrial locations, Residential, and Apartment rentals.

Step 3
After applying online you'll receive a confirmation e-mail.  Once the application has been reviewed you'll receive a second e-mail stating whether your application has been processed, requires more information, or requires additional Planning Department review.

Your confirmation e-mail will include a link with temporary credentials so that you may check the status of your application.  If you have any questions contact the Revenue Division at TaxInquiries@elsegundo.org
 
Please note: Application processing time may be up to ten (10) business days.
