Advisory from Scattergood Generating Station re Noise and Resolution
Dear El Segundo Residents,
Thank you for your continued patience as we have been working to resolve the start-up noise associated with Generating Units 4 and 5 at Scattergood Generating Station. We have made progress in resolving the issue and are in the final stages of implementing a long-term solution. New equipment is being installed that will significantly reduce the noise. However, this new equipment must be tested rigorously to ensure satisfactory performance.
As such, residents who live near the northeast perimeter of Scattergood can expect to hear the start-up noise every business day between 2:00pm to 4:00pm starting Wednesday October 9, 2019 through Wednesday October 30, 2019. We will NOT test the equipment on weekends and holidays, including Indigenous People’s Day (Monday, October 24) or Halloween (Thursday, October 31). We expect that by testing every day for three weeks, we will be able to gather as much information as possible about equipment performance and make potential repairs, if necessary.
We invite you to contact us with feedback about this testing period. If there is a circumstance where the start-up noise will create a hardship such that we should adjust the schedule, we may be able to accommodate special requests. However, please note that we must test the equipment for three weeks in order to maximize performance results and delays in the testing will push the schedule out further. Our goal is to complete all testing and potential repairs well before the holiday season.
